Toyota – A Record of Safety
We live in a great time of safety development for new cars. Both the Federal government and car manufacturers, like Toyota, have embraced the priority of putting new car shoppers in safer cars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently released their annual crash test findings along with a list of the vehicles which received one of their highest classifications. The list of 71 vehicles which received either, Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ awards, was almost double the count on last year’s list.
The great news for Toyota owners and prospective Toyota buyers is the list included more Toyota models than any other manufacturer. Between Toyota’s three brands – Toyota, Lexus and Scion – 12 models received recognition as a Top Safety Pick+ (Lexus CT, Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Prius V, Lexus RC and Lexus NX) or a Top Safety Pick (Scion FR-S, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Avalon and Scion tC).
The wide range of award winners in Toyota’s family of vehicles, shows that you don’t necessarily have to spend more just to get a safer vehicle. In addition, a safer vehicle may expect to have better resale value at trade-in time. If a vehicle is built to be safer, it is a strong indicator that is well made and will stand up for the long haul in normal use.
The IIHS runs very targeted testing to try and duplicate real world conditions where accidents occur. There are 5 tests of safety which each vehicle is subjected to in order to provide a comprehensive score. Measuring how a vehicle handles front, side, and rear end impacts as well as roll overs and small offset collisions, demonstrates how much injury causing force the occupants will experience in an accident. Vehicles must perform well just to receive the Top Safety Pick rating. To get a Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must also have a factory installed system designed to warn the driver of an impending crash and even have the ability to slow or stop the vehicle if the driver doesn’t react quickly enough.
With Toyota’s signature Star Safety System owners can always be confident they have a comprehensive package to protect them. The Star Safety System™ is a network of active traction, cornering and braking technologies that help the driver to accelerate, steer and stop, especially in slippery conditions or during emergency maneuvers. Star Safety System includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology (SST) and comes standard on every new Toyota.
I was taught 25 years ago, when I entered automotive sales, that the best accident for a car owner is the one they never have. Active safety helps you to avoid an accident in the first place. But sometimes it’s the other person who’s out of control. At times like that, driving a Toyota may increase your chances dramatically of walking away from an accident with bumps and bruises instead of not at all. Don’t take my word for it, see what the people at IIHS have to say at http://www.iihs.org/iihs/news/desktopnews/safety-gains-ground-more-vehicles-earn-top-honors-from-iihs.
As we head into the 2016 model year in the next few months, Toyota plans to offer more built-in crash warning and pre-braking systems on more of their most affordable and popular models. Expect pricing on these packages to be very modest compared to current costs. For more information on Toyota safety please contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
Fort Wayne Toyota
By Michael Smith
The RAV4 is my favorite vehicle and has been since I began at Fort Wayne Toyota over 7 years ago. The versatility, economy and comfort are unrivaled, especially with small crossovers. The RAV4 has so many features, owners undoubtedly have a much longer list of features & benefits.
So my love of the RAV4 was put to the test when we set out for a week long spring break vacation. As we were planning the trip from our home in Wabash, Indiana to my parents' home in Boynton Beach, Florida, there were concerns…SERIOUS concerns. I was travelling with three others, TWO of which were my lovely wife and daughter. They are both famous for having a “healthy” amount of luggage.
“Would we have room for all four passengers AND all of our stuff?”
One bag after another went into the RAV4 and…….HOLY COW EVERYTHING FIT WITH ROOM TO SPARE!
Over the course of a couple days I got to sit in all areas of the RAV4 (except the driver's seat) and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We could see out of the back window, we had leg room, and we had a great smooth ride.
The RAV4 offers oodles of rear leg room, so it can accommodate four of your favorite six-foot passengers with room to spare. Friends and family riding in the rear seat will feel like first-class passengers too…I know I did! With the pull of a handle, the rear seatbacks reclined and I got to enjoy all TWENTY hours of the ride.
Bring your wife, your daughter, and their luggage...see just how roomy the RAV4 really is!
